Job description
We are recruiting a Nursery Kitchen Supervisor to cover a period of maternity leave. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our nursery kitchen on a solo basis. Working on your own initiative, you will prepare fresh, nutritious meals and snacks for early years children while managing stock, kitchen expenditure, and strict food safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Create and provide healthy, nutritionally balanced menus in line with Nutrition Matters for the Early Years. Prepare fresh home-cooked lunches and two daily snacks.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of allergens to provide appropriate alternatives so no child feels excluded. Communicate with nursery staff and key workers to assist with fussy eaters.
- Work independently to manage daily kitchen operations. Plan monthly menus using our recipe file.
- Place online food orders, unpack and store items in line with regulations, and manage kitchen expenditure.
- Maintain daily paperwork, including the SC8 hygiene book and expense records. Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized kitchen. Handle washing up, cleaning, waste disposal, and recycling in line with nursery policy. Wear the provided uniform, apron, and hairnet at all times when preparing food.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Level 2 (or above) Food Safety Certificate in Catering.
- Accredited Food Allergen Awareness Training.
- Ability to work alone, use initiative, manage paperwork, and run a kitchen efficiently.
