Job description
Our Fitness Instructor and Swim Teacher will deliver high-quality wellness experiences across both gym floor and aquatic facilities. You will split your time between motivating members in the gym and delivering structured swimming instruction to individuals and groups. Your main objective is to provide safe, engaging, and professional training that helps members reach their personal health goals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct member inductions: Introduce new members to the gym floor layout and equipment safety protocols.
- Design exercise programs: Assess individual fitness levels to build tailored workout routines.
- Lead group classes: Deliver high-energy group fitness classes across various formats.
- Maintain gym floor standards: Ensure equipment is clean, functional, and organized throughout your shift.
- Provide workout floor coaching: Proactively offer technique corrections to prevent member injuries
- Deliver swimming lessons: Teach structured group classes and private one-to-one sessions for all ages and abilities.
- Apply teaching frameworks: Align all instruction methods with standard frameworks such as Swim UK/ Ireland guidelines.
- Monitor swimmer progress: Evaluate skill development and award certificates or progression badges regularly.
- Ensure pool safety: Maintain constant vigilance over pool users and strictly implement facility emergency action plans.
- Manage pool equipment: Set up and clear away teaching aids like floats, fins, and lane ropes
- Drive member retention: Build positive, long-term relationships with members to build a thriving club community.
- Promote club services: Encourage lesson enrolment and promote internal club services or secondary spend products.
- Resolve member inquiries: Answer customer questions directly on the floor or escalate issues to club management
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Good Standard of Education: Maths & English.
- Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with diverse members.
- Swim Teaching: Swim UK/ Ireland Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification or ASA Level 2 equivalent.
- Gym Instruction: Recognized Level 2 Fitness Instructor certification or equivalent.
- High level of physical fitness to stand, lift heavy equipment, and remain active.
- Safety & First Aid: Valid Lifeguard qualification (NPLQ) or Rescue Test for Swimming Teachers, alongside an active CPR certification
- Time management: Exceptional punctuality to transition smoothly between gym schedules and pool timetables.
- Basic computer literacy to handle reception desks and booking software.
Desirable Skills
- Previous customer-facing experience within a leisure, hospitality, or retail environment
- Previous working experience of the role.
- Excellent teamwork abilities to coordinate shifts with instructors and managers.
- Clear communication: Ability to adapt coaching styles to children, adults, and special populations
- High energy: Passion for fitness and health with a talent for motivating others.
- Adaptability: Patient approach when working with nervous swimmers or fitness beginners
