Job description
Holywood Family Trust are recruiting two 10.5 hour Youth Posts (funded by EA Area Funding) for our Youth Centre based in Holywood. The Youth Support Worker or Assistant Youth Support Worker will work directly in our Youth Centre with a wide range of young people (aged 9-18 years), to support their developmental needs by leading generic youth work and targeted curriculum development activities; under direction of the Youth Team Leader and priorities set by HFT management. Responsibilities
- Lead/assist in facilitating and play an active leadership role in weekly youth club, drop-in, online provision and outreach sessions for young people, aged 9-18 years.
- Communicate effectively and develop significant relationships with a wide range of young people with various needs and from different backgrounds.
- Lead/assist in planning, developing, facilitating and evaluating programmes, specifically for young people to address their needs.
- Lead/assist in writing, facilitating and reviewing group workshops, sessions and activities for young people.
- Lead/support the organisation and delivery of youth-led community events.
- Help young people to express their goals, develop positive pathways of development and realise their full potential.
- Enable young people to work effectively on their own and in peer groups. Motivate and support young people to play an active role in the project, within our models of youth participation.
- Assertively challenge oppressive behaviour, while maintaining a supportive relationship with the young person. Provide information, support and sign-posting to young people.
- Encourage young people to broaden their horizons through new opportunities and contribute towards their own community and society.
- Support young people to understand personal risks and adverse experiences, help them to act to effectively address these issues in their lives.
- Implement HFT’s Child Protection policy and work with the young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
- Attend regular team meetings, debriefs and training along with the Youth Team Leader, other youth support staff and volunteers. Actively support and work alongside volunteers.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Youth Support Worker -OCN level 3 in Youth Work Practice. OR higher or equivalent relevant qualifications. 2-years experience within the last 5-years, working or volunteering with young people aged 9-18 years.
- 2-years experience of working with young people in a youth drop-in, youth club, outreach or school setting. Experience of working alongside young people in non-formal, recreational and group environments.
- Experience building significant relationships with a wide range of young people aged 9-18 years old. Experience of facilitating needs-based programmes and workshops within a youth setting. (not conclusive).
- Competent computer skills and use of Microsoft. Knowledge of child protection legislation and other policies relevant to youth work. Working knowledge of risk assessment and health & safety regulation, when working with young people.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, in particular active listening. Ability to write session plans, organise group work and design projects in a range of topics and areas. Small group-work and facilitation skills. Self-motivated.
- Assistant Youth Support Worker-OCN level 2 in Youth Work Practice. OR higher or equivalent relevant qualifications. A minimum of 1-years experience within the last 5-years, working or volunteering with young people aged 9-18.
- 1-years experience of working with young people in a youth drop-in, youth club, outreach or school setting. Experience of working alongside young people in non-formal, recreational and group environments.
- Experience building significant relationships with a wide range of 9-18 year olds. Experience of facilitating needs-based programmes and workshops within a youth setting.

The posts are funded by the Education Authority up to 31st March 2027. Posts are subject to extension if funding is available. Employers Monitoring Form will be provided in the Application Pack.
