We require a part-time Healthcare Assistant to provide a high quality venepuncture and sampling service for our patients.
Responsibilities
- To provide a full and comprehensive venepuncture and sampling service with due regard to procedures governing safe clinical practice, confidentiality, cross infection and health and safety.
- To be individually responsible for carrying out procedures for the labelling and recording of specimens ensuring accuracy and safe practice according to established protocols.
- To have full working knowledge of blood collection tubes, forms and record accurate information in the practice system.
- Measure and record patient observations including BP, pulse, height and weight.
- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team liaising with medical, nursing, administration and laboratory staff.
- Urinalysis.
- To communicate effectively with patients.
- Chaperone and assist in our Gynae elective care clinics.
- Correct disposal and replacement of sharp bins in line with policies and procedures.
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording.
- Acknowledge responsibilities and report any changes in the condition and/or circumstances of patients to a clinician.
- Restocking/maintenance of equipment.
- Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms.
- This is a new and expanding role, applicants will be expected to take on additional training and administrative/reception duties when required.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Phlebotomy certificate.
- Preferably at least 2 years' experience of working in a similar role
- Willingness to undertake training / development to meet the current & on-going needs of the post.

Location - Dr McFerran & Partners Practice Ballyowen HC 179 Andersonstown Road Belfast. Temporary with the view to becoming permanent. Hours and Salary. Salary: Depending on experience. Hours: Hours / days can be discussed. Must be willing to work mornings and some afternoon to cover clinic days. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST. An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality. An ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge, to respond to patients enquiries and requests. while adhering to practice limitations An understanding and acceptance of own capabilities and awareness of own limitations. Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities. lexibility of working hours., Excellent communication skills.
