Fire and Security Engineer


Job description

We are seeking a Fire & Security Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, servicing, maintenance, testing, commissioning, and fault-finding of fire and security systems across commercial, residential, and industrial properties, across Northern Ireland. You will work both independently and as part of a team, providing a professional service to customers and ensuring all systems operate reliably and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, and maintain intruder alarm systems. Install and maintain CCTV systems, including IP and analogue systems. Install and maintain access control and door entry systems.
  • Install, service, maintain, test, and repair fire and security systems. Install and maintain fire alarm systems, including addressable and conventional systems.
  • Carry out system commissioning, testing, and handover to customers.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective fault-finding and repairs.
  • Read and interpret system drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, and manufacturers' documentation.
  • Ensure systems are installed and maintained in accordance with relevant regulations, standards, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Complete service reports, installation records, certificates, and other required documentation accurately.
  • Identify potential system issues and recommend appropriate remedial works or upgrades.
  • Provide customers with clear information regarding system operation and any remedial recommendations.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, testing equipment, and company vehicles in good working order.
  • Follow company health and safety procedures and report any hazards or concerns.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience working as a Fire & Security Engineer or in a similar technical role.
  • Good understanding of fire and security systems.
  • A strong problem solver with good fault-finding abilities. Safety conscious and committed to compliance.
  • A good communicator with colleagues, customers, and contractors. Flexible and willing to travel between sites.
  • Able to manage their own workload and prioritise tasks. Comfortable working under pressure and to deadlines.

Desirable Skills

  • Work with intercom, video door entry, and other electronic security systems where required.
  • Automatic gates and barriers.
  • Electronic locking systems.
  • Experience with recognised manufacturers and systems such as: Advanced C-TEC, Kentec, Morley-IAS, Notifier, Apollo, Hochiki, Texecom, Galaxy, Hikvision, Dahua, Paxton, Salto. Videx

Further Information

The role will involve travelling to customer sites, including commercial buildings, residential properties, offices, retail premises, industrial sites, and construction projects. The engineer may be required to work at heights, use ladders or access equipment, work in confined areas, and occasionally work outside normal business hours. Some overtime, weekend work, night work, and emergency call-outs may be required depending on customer and business requirements.
