Job description

This is an opportunity to begin a career within one of Ireland's most progressive newspaper printing facilities. As a Trainee Printer, you will receive comprehensive training across all areas of the production process, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to produce high-quality printed products safely, efficiently and to strict production deadlines. Responsibilities

  • Ensure the reel store remains clean, organised and safe.
  • Load reels into reel stands.
  • Prepare reels and operate webbing-up equipment.
  • Prepare splice patterns on loaded reels.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of consumables.
  • Assist with press cleaning and maintenance.
  • Support plate changes between print runs.
  • Keep work areas clean and tidy.
  • Prepare and operate mailroom equipment.
  • Assist with trimming and inserting operations.
  • Operate forklift trucks as required.
  • Ensure products are stacked, wrapped and strapped correctly.
  • Basic maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organised environment.
  • Plate Making (CTP), assist with page transmission and production scheduling.
  • Ensure production deadlines are achieved.
  • Produce plates in line with print requirements.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers.
  • Support stock control and storage procedures.
  • Prepare presses for production runs.
  • Help achieve scheduled start and finish times.
  • Maintain high standards of print quality.
  • Assist with ongoing press and equipment maintenance.
  • Follow health and safety procedures.
  • Carry out reasonable duties requested by management.
  • Work across departments as required by business needs.
  • Promote a positive, safe and team-focused environment.
  • Participate fully in training and development opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • GCSE English at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • GCSE Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • GCSE ICT at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Have a flexible approach to shift work.

Desirable Skills

  • Qualifications or achievements in Art, Design or related subjects.
