Job description

Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery with an Interest in Upper Limb Surgery. To provide optimum quality of effective and efficient Orthopaedic and Trauma care within the contract resources available to the Western HSC Trust predominantly in Altnagelvin Area Hospital. To undertake the provision of a trauma and elective service to Londonderry, Enniskillen, Omagh, Limavady and Coleraine. The trust provides outpatient clinics at the South West Acute Hospital, OHPCC, Roe Valley and the Causeway Hospital. In order to supply a comprehensive and regular outreach service to the extended catchment areas this work will be shared with the incumbent team of 14 consultants. It is necessary therefore to undertake outpatient clinics at the Erne Hospital, Tyrone County Hospital, Roe Valley and the Causeway Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Primary responsibility is for patient care, clear diagnosis and team leadership.
• The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
• The successful applicant will also be involved in Clinical Governance, education and training.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Hold or be eligible for Full General Medical Council (London) and Licence to Practise
• Be on or be eligible to be on the GMC Specialist Register for Trauma & Orthopaedics via
• CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date), or
• CESR, or
• European Community Rights
• An interest in upper limb, specifically shoulder surgery would be essential with confirmation evidence of post CCST fellowship training in upper limb orthopaedics.

Desirable Skills

• Applicants must possess either FRCS (Tr&Orth) or an equivalent qualification and must be a Fel-low of one of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons.
• Fellowship training in upper limb orthopaedic surgery.
