Personal Care Assistant


Job description

As a Personal Assistant, your primary responsibility is to provide assistance and support to an individual who requires help due to their acquired brain injury. You will play a crucial role in empowering the individual to live independently and improve their quality of life. The individual requires support and assistance to maximise independence and enable him to carry out everyday tasks within his own home.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and prompting with personal hygiene tasks
  • Assistance and prompting with medication support, adhering to the individual’s medication plans
  • Assistance and support with home maintenance and household tasks including cooking, cleaning, laundry and grocery shopping
  • Provide physical assistance and support with mobility aids e.g. wheelchair
  • Provide prompting and encouragement with rehabilitation and physiotherapy exercises
  • Support to attend social events and within the community
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to the individual, actively listening to their concerns and providing encouragement
  • Monitor the individuals' health status and report any changes or concerns to the employer or healthcare professionals
  • Assistance to appointments and help to support to facilitate communication between the individual and healthcare providers, family members, or support networks as needed
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the individual by identifying and addressing potential hazards or risks in the environment

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Compassion and empathy towards individuals facing challenges
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and priorities
  • Relevant experience or qualifications in healthcare, social work, or a related field may be beneficial
  • Access NI required
  • Must hold a full clean UK Drivers Licence
