We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mobile Service Engineer to provide high-quality service, maintenance, and repair of specialist equipment fitted to a range of vehicles. This role involves working on-site at customer locations, diagnosing technical issues, performing scheduled servicing, and ensuring equipment is kept safe, reliable, and operational. The successful candidate will represent the company on the road, delivering exceptional technical support and customer service while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on specialist vehicle-mounted equipment e.g., hydraulic systems, electrical systems, lifting equipment, medical/communication systems, etc.
- Perform routine maintenance in accordance with manufacturers’ schedules and company procedures.
- Diagnose faults and implement effective solutions to minimise equipment downtime.
- Complete service reports, job sheets, and relevant documentation accurately and promptly.
- Provide technical support and advice to customers on the safe use and care of their equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards at all times.
- Manage company tools, parts, and mobile workshop vehicle effectively and responsibly.
- Work independently on customer sites, demonstrating professionalism and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Participate in out-of-hours call-out rota.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a field service engineer, mobile technician, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic systems.
- Experience working with vehicle-based equipment preferred but not essential; full training will be provided.
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently.
Desirable Skills
- NVQ/City & Guilds in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- LOLER, PUWER, or other relevant safety certification.
- Previous experience with specialist vehicles e.g., emergency service vehicles, commercial fleets, utility vehicles.
