Job description

We are seeking a Cook to join our catering team and help deliver nutritious, home-cooked meals to residents, staff, and visitors. Reporting To: Catering Manager / Assistant Catering Manager. Accountable To: General Manager. Prepare and serve nutritious, high-quality meals, accommodate dietary needs, allergies and specialist diets, maintain food safety.

Responsibilities

  • Food preparation & service.
  • Prepare, cook, and present meals to a high standard.
  • Follow planned menus and accommodate dietary requirements and preferences.
  • Prepare alternative meals when required.
  • Assist with menu planning and special events catering.
  • Resident wellbeing. Support residents' nutritional needs, including specialist diets.
  • Ensure dietary requirements, allergies, and preferences are met.
  • Promote a positive dining experience.
  • Comply with food hygiene, HACCP, allergen, and food safety regulations.
  • Record temperatures and maintain food safety documentation.
  • Support inspections and ensure safe food handling practices.
  • Monitor stock, assist with ordering, and minimise waste.
  • Maintain clean, organised kitchen areas and equipment.
  • Support and guide Catering Assistants when required.
  • Follow health & safety procedures.
  • Report accidents, hazards, and equipment faults.
  • Participate in mandatory training and fire safety procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Recognised Catering Qualification and Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Minimum 2 years' cooking experience in catering, hospitality or restaurants.
  • Strong food preparation skills, HACCP knowledge, customer focus, organisation, teamwork and professionalism.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in a nursing home, residential care, healthcare or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of IDDSI, food fortification and therapeutic diets.
  • Experience preparing meals for older people.
  • GCSE English (Grade A-C) or equivalent desirable.
