Personal Assistant


Job description

An experienced and reliable Personal Assistant is required to provide respectful support to a wheelchair user with their morning routine and active lifestyle. The employer enjoys reading, wheelchair rugby, and going to the gym. The role is normally two hours each morning, five or six days per week. Reliability is essential. Occasional flexibility for sport, the gym or appointments may be requested and agreed in advance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care with dignity, sensitivity, and respect.
  • Prepare breakfast and assist with simple morning tasks.
  • Carry out light housework, such as tidying and washing dishes.
  • Support the employer to attend the gym and other community activities.
  • When agreed, accompany the employer to wheelchair rugby and help load and unload suitable equipment from the car.
  • Follow agreed routines, confidentiality, health and safety, infection prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Carry out any moving or handling safely, following training and the relevant risk assessment.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Previous paid or substantial relevant experience providing personal care or one-to-one support.
  • A person centred approach.
  • Able to commit to the agreed rota.
  • Able to communicate clearly, respect confidentiality and follow the employer’s preferred routines.
  • Able to carry out the practical duties safely, with reasonable adjustments, training or equipment where required.
  • Willing to maintain a smoke-free working environment.
  • Willing to undertake relevant training and the appropriate AccessNI check.

Desirable Skills

  • An interest in reading, fitness or sport.
  • Experience supporting a wheelchair user or assisting with sports equipment.
