Job description

Assess patients before endoscopy procedures and ensure informed consent has been obtained. Prepare patients physically and emotionally for their procedure.

Responsibilities

• Assist the endoscopist during a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, and bronchoscopy (where applicable).
• Administer and monitor sedation in accordance with local policies and professional guidelines.
• Continuously monitor patients vital signs before, during, and after procedures.
• Recognise and respond promptly to any patient deterioration or complications.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Registered nurse with current NMC registration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous experience in endoscopy or acute clinical nursing.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of infection prevention.

Desirable Skills

• Previous experience assisting with upper and lower GI endoscopy procedures.
• Experience administering conscious sedation.
• ILS (Immediate Life Support) Certification.
• Knowledge of JAG accreditation standards.
• Experience of using endoscopy reporting system.
