Job description

We are looking for a Community Association Bus Driver to provide safe and comfortable transport for children, older people and other members of our local community. The successful applicant will play an important role in helping community members access services/activities, appointments, social events and other services. From time to time the successful applicant may be required to undertake duties outside of driving within other areas of the Centre. Such duties will be agreed by mutual consent and will be carried out in accordance with the reasonable requests and direction of the Centre Manager.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport children, elderly passengers and other community members.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report any faults or maintenance issues.
• Ensure passengers are treated with dignity, patience and respect.
• Assist passengers when boarding and leaving the vehicle where appropriate.
• Follow all road traffic laws, safeguarding procedures and community association policies.
• Maintain a clean, safe and presentable vehicle.
• Keep accurate records of journeys, mileage and passenger numbers.
• Communicate effectively with passengers, parents/carers, staff and volunteers.
• Adapt to the needs of passengers, including those with limited mobility.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• A valid PCV/PSV driving licence and up to date Driver CPC.
• Hold a full, valid driving licence for more than 2 years.
• Good driving record and safe driving practices.
• Previous driving experience, preferably in a passenger transport or community setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work responsibly and maintain confidentiality.
• Willingness to undertake any required safeguarding or passenger-assistance training.
• Enhanced Access NI check or willingness to undergo the appropriate check, as the role involves transporting children and vulnerable adults.

Desirable Skills

• Previous experience transporting children or older people.
• Minibus or passenger-carrying vehicle experience.
• Relevant minibus/passenger transport qualification.
• First Aid qualification.
• Knowledge of the local area.

Further Information

Holiday entitlement/NEST pension scheme. Training Requirements: Training may occasionally be required outside of normal working hours. The successful applicant will be expected to attend all mandatory training sessions as part of their duties and responsibilities associated with the role. Successful applicant will be required to undergo Access NI and NHSCT checks prior to commencing employment
