This is an exciting opportunity to join MACS as part of the Upstream NI project, an innovative schools-based homelessness prevention programme designed to identify and support young people at risk before they experience housing instability or family breakdown. The Family Mediation Project Worker will provide targeted early intervention through family mediation and strengths-based support to young people identified through the Upstream screening process. Working collaboratively with schools, families and partner agencies, the role aims to strengthen family relationships, improve communication and help young people remain safely at home wherever appropriate. Using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches, the postholder will empower young people and their families to develop sustainable solutions that improve wellbeing, resilience and long-term outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver family mediation and one-to-one support to young people identified through the Upstream screening process as being at risk of homelessness or family breakdown.
• Build trusting relationships with young people and their families to support positive and sustainable change.
• Complete holistic assessments to understand family dynamics, identify strengths and assess support needs.
• Work closely with designated school staff to coordinate support for young people and participate in planning and review meetings.
• Engage parents, carers and wider family members in support planning and mediation where appropriate.
• Develop effective partnerships with education, social work, health and community organisations to coordinate appropriate support.
• Maintain accurate electronic case management records in line with organisational procedures and data protection requirements.
• Work in accordance with MACS safeguarding policies, procedures and values.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the values, ethos and work of MACS.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Relevant qualification (e.g. Youth Work, Social Work, Education, Psychology) or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience of working directly with vulnerable young people and/or families.
• Experience of delivering family mediation, restorative practice, family support or other interventions that strengthen family relationships.
• Experience using strengths-based, trauma-informed or restorative approaches.
• Excellent communication and active listening skills, including written record-keeping.
• IT literacy and confidence using digital tools (Excel, Teams, Microsoft Forms or similar).
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Skills

• Experience working in or with schools or education settings.
• Experience in mediation or family-based interventions.
• Experience presenting to groups or facilitating workshops.
• Lived experience relevant to youth homelessness or care is highly welcomed.
