The Support Worker will assist the Youth Worker in the delivery of the Be Positive project. They will support the Youth Worker in developing and organising tailored local activities and programmes to meet the young people’s individual needs and goals and support their families.
Responsibilities
- To work directly with young people to develop their social education by providing programmes of activities
- Ensuring that young people play an active role in the youth group and work towards a model of youth participation.
- Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people.
- Assist in the development of relationships with the wider community and external agencies.
- Assist young people to express and realise their goals
- Enable young people to work effectively in groups
- Challenge oppressive behaviour in young people
- Provide information and support to young people
- Encourage young people to broaden their horizons and be active citizens.
- Support young people in evaluating youth work activities and the impact of youth work on their development
- Support young people in their understanding of risks and challenges and in taking action to address key issues in their lives.
- Implement the DPF’s Child Protection Policy and work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
- Carry out administrative duties within the project, under the direction of the Line Manager
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required by the Management/Committee
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A minimum of 1 year experience (paid or voluntary) working with young people aged 12-18
- 5 GCSE or equivalent including Maths and English
- Computer Literate
- Experience of planning programmes and activities for young people
- Ability to encourage young people to try new activities and to mix with their peers
- Ability to communicate effectively with excellent written and verbal skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and work effectively as part of a team.
- Available to work evenings and evenings when required.
Desirable Skills
- Youth work qualification
- Experience of planning activities and events
- Experience of contacting, engaging and motivating young people
- First aid qualification
- Safeguarding Children Training

Fixed Term Post - 31st August 2028 Work time: Evenings and Weekends (when required) The Appointment will be subject to Satisfactory references from two referees NI Access Check The appointee will be required to satisfactorily complete a 6 month probation period.
