Job description

Ink Pots Day Nursery & Afterschool is seeking a passionate Toddler Room Supervisor for a 37 hour maternity cover role to lead our toddler room, plan engaging early learning activities, and ensure a safe, nurturing environment for every child. In this position, you will supervise room staff, track individual developmental progress, build strong relationships with parents, and uphold strict safeguarding and health standards. Candidates must be aged 18 or older and hold, or be actively working towards, a minimum NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, paired with strong leadership, communication, and early childhood development skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement age-appropriate, hands-on learning activities and daily routines that promote physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development for toddlers.
• Oversee daily operations within the toddler room, assigning tasks to room assistants, maintaining high standards of care, and ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene regulations.
• Monitor and document each child's individual progress, milestones, and daily activities, keeping accurate records to track developmental growth.
• Maintain open, professional, and positive relationships with parents and guardians by providing regular daily updates, progress reports, and addressing any concerns.
• Maintain a clean, secure, and stimulating environment, ensuring child safeguarding procedures, food hygiene protocols, and first-aid standards are strictly followed at all times.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Ability to guide, support, and delegate tasks to room staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Deep understanding of toddler developmental milestones, behaviour management, and age-appropriate learning strategies.
• Clear verbal and written skills to share progress updates with parents, collaborate with team members, and interface with management.
• Keen attention to detail regarding child safety, hygiene regulations, risk assessments, and safeguarding protocols.

Desirable Skills

• Level 3 in childcare (or working towards)
