Parent Support Worker


Job description

You will work independently with a caseload 20 families with children aged 5 - 13 years old for a 12-week period, offering practical and emotional support to parents/children within their own home and offering a holistic supportive service. You will do this by meeting your families face to face either at their own home or a neutral venue to assess the individual needs of these families and formulate a plan of support, working towards achieving shared goals. The preventative home-based family support service is designed to meet the needs of families, some with multiple complex needs. The project is inclusive of BME and complemented with Evidence Base Parenting Programmes and support from volunteers. You will work directly with the families providing practical support to promote the best outcomes for the children and families, you will aim to continue to strengthen the capabilities of parents using practical and emotional support thereby reducing the need for social services intervention. Responsibilities

  • Visiting families and providing 1-1 support to families with children aged 5-13.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of the children and advising parents of ways to do the same.
  • Where children have not/are not meeting their milestones support parents to avail of appropriate supports services.
  • Offering practical and emotional support included but not limited to setting boundaries, sleep routine, support around behavioural issues, support around structured activities within the home, positive parenting and boundaries for children aged 5-13.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Level 3 or above qualification in Health & Social Care.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience of working with children aged 5-13.
  • GCSE English or equivalent.
  • A full driving licence and access to a car with Business insurance.

Desirable Skills

  • Ability to work flexibly to suit the needs of families/children, which can include evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of child development and behavioural difficulties.
