Job description

The post will have a primary base of Altnagelvin Hospital, with outreach commitments to Omagh Hospital and South West Acute Hospital (SWAH). The Trust is currently seeking a temporary part time position but should the opportunity and funding arise the opportunity for increased sessions may be available. The successful candidates upon employment will have access to office with access to Trust computer (desktop/laptop), relevant IT equipment to carry out their job seamlessly and access to all relevant IT systems. The successful employee will have secretarial support to carry out the administrative duties in a timely manner. The successful candidate will be supported by senior colleagues in the department and mentoring will be provided by a senior colleague in the organisation if required. To provide a high quality, effective and efficient Sexual Health (GUM) and HIV service within the contract resources available to Western HSC Trust. To provide an efficient and effective Sexual Health (GUM) and HIV service to meet the needs of the population.

Responsibilities

  • To undertake the HIV Clinical Lead role and to share in the collective responsibility for the provision of the Sexual Health (GUM) and HIV service to patients within the Western Trust area.
  • To provide leadership within the specialty team and to contribute to the development of excellence in clinical practice through research, audit and undergraduate and postgraduate training.
  • To provide senior decision making within the Sexual Health (GUM) and HIV service and contribute to the development in excellence in clinical practice through research, audit and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • The prime clinical responsibility is to be accountable for the continuous care of patients within a team setting.
  • Provide specialist care and evidence-based care in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Offer expert advice on HIV prevention, testing, and treatment, including PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) and provide ongoing care for people living with HIV.
  • Manage complex and high-risk cases, including recurrent infections, antibiotic-resistant STIs, and sexual health concerns in vulnerable populations.
  • Promote and develop multidisciplinary teamwork in the specialty of Sexual Health (GUM) and HIV.
  • The post holder will be responsible for providing any procedures relating to the specialty and will develop the same in keeping with medical advances.
  • The Trust would wish to offer all candidates opportunity to specialise in their preferred sub-specialty. Every effort will be made to ensure these opportunities are available.
  • Mentorship is available if required from colleagues within the team or regionally if not available locally. It would also be expected that experienced candidates would be willing to mentor junior colleagues.
  • Conduct the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the manage-ment of the service in a timely manner.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Hold or be eligible for Full General Medical Council (London) registration with a Licence to Practice and ideally be on the Specialist Register.
  • MRCP(UK) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
  • This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.

Further Information

Salary: £110,681 - £145,517 per annum pro rata. This post is a part-time position in GUM. However with mutual agreement, we can offer additional sessions in GIM/Acute Medicine to make it to 10 Programmed Activities, with additional PA’s available for out of hours GIM/Acute medicine on calls.
