PRISM Research and Innovation Officer
Job description
We are seeking an Embedded Researcher to support the delivery of the PRISM project, working directly with SMEs to drive innovation, sustainability and decarbonisation. Working closely with up to three SMEs, you will help identify opportunities for product, process and organisational innovation and support businesses in developing and implementing practical, research-informed solutions. You will work alongside the Cluster Manager to develop tailored decarbonisation plans that reflect the individual needs, priorities and ambitions of each business. The role will involve building strong relationships with SMEs and project partners across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, sharing knowledge and best practice, and supporting businesses to identify relevant training, development and funding opportunities. You will also contribute to project reporting, case studies, workshops, presentations and knowledge-sharing activities, helping to demonstrate the impact of the PRISM project and promote innovative and sustainable practices across participating businesses. Responsibilities
- Work closely with SMEs to co-design and implement practical, research-informed solutions that support innovation, sustainability and decarbonisation.
- Work alongside the Cluster Manager to develop tailored decarbonisation plans based on the needs and priorities of each SME.
- Review SME processes and ways of working, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and measurable impact.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with SMEs, trade associations, academic partners and other project stakeholders across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
- Act as a key point of contact between SMEs and the Cluster Manager, providing regular updates on progress, achievements, challenges and opportunities.
- Record research findings, methods and outcomes, and contribute to project reports, case studies and other PRISM reporting and dissemination activities.
- Support SMEs in identifying relevant training, development and funding opportunities to strengthen their innovation and decarbonisation activities.
- Contribute to the delivery of workshops, training sessions, presentations and knowledge-sharing events, including the annual PRISM Research Symposium.
- Share research, learning and examples of good practice across participating SMEs and project partners, encouraging the adoption of innovative, sustainable and low-carbon practices.
- Keep up to date with developments and best practice in decarbonisation, sustainable manufacturing, process and product innovation, and low-carbon technologies.
- Ensure project activities, communications and dissemination are aligned with PRISM objectives and relevant SEUPB and PEACEPLUS requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Degree qualification/Level 5 or equivalent in Construction, Mineral Process or Industrial Engineering, Sustainable Manufacturing, Energy Management, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Carbon Management, Sustainability, Renewable Energy.
- Or four years’ demonstrable experience in Construction, Mineral Process or Industrial Engineering, Sustainable Manufacturing, Energy Management, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Carbon Management, Sustainability, Renewable energy.
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade A - C) or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years’ proven experience in improving products or processes, including spotting opportunities for change, developing practical solutions, and delivering improvements.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in working with new products or process teams within an organisation.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience producing clear, accurate reports for management, including analysing data, highlighting key findings, and making practical, evidence-based recommendations.
- A minimum of 2 years' access to own transport and willingness to travel across SME/company sites as required.
