Job description

Glenbank Community Association is seeking a Family Intervention Officer to join our busy team, with primary responsibility for supporting the delivery of Glenbank Play Services for children aged 2 years and over. The successful applicant will help plan, prepare and deliver a safe, welcoming, stimulating and inclusive play environment, supporting children's learning, development, wellbeing and social interaction through age-appropriate play and activities. The post holder will work directly with children during Play Services, helping with daily routines, structured and child-led activities, snack times, preparation of resources and maintaining a clean, organised and safe play environment. They will support individual children's needs and help ensure every child is encouraged to participate, develop confidence and enjoy their time at Glenbank.

Responsibilities

  • Developing positive relationships with parents and carers, providing a welcoming point of contact, identifying where families may require additional support and providing appropriate information, practical assistance, advocacy or signposting.
  • Alongside Play Services, the Family Intervention Officer will support the wider needs and busy day-to-day operation of Glenbank Community Centre e.g. supporting After Schools, children's and youth programmes, SEN provision, family activities, etc.
  • Work closely with the Youth Development Worker, other staff, volunteers, local schools, community organisations and statutory partners to ensure children and families receive coordinated and appropriate support.
  • Maintaining appropriate attendance and programme records, contributing to monitoring and evaluation, assisting with programme planning and helping identify emerging needs among children, parents and families.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children, confidentiality, inclusion, health and safety and Glenbank Community Association's policies and procedures.
  • While the primary focus is delivery and development of Glenbank's Play Services, successful applicant will be expected to work flexibly as part of Glenbank team and undertake other reasonable duties to support effective running of Centre etc.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with children in a play, childcare or community setting.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child development.
  • Able to engage positively with children and parents.

Desirable Skills

  • Relevant childcare, early years or community qualification.
  • Experience delivering play services for children. First Aid and safeguarding training.
  • Experience supporting SEN children, families, community programmes or events.
