Job description

Operates computer numeric-controlled machinery. Understands how the machinery functions and assists with setup and day-to-day operations. Inspects machines and keeps them maintained so that production processes continue smoothly and safely.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines. Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function.
• Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading drawings etc.
• Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result.
• Inspect and measure finished products using specific measuring equipment and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly.
• Perform preventative maintenance checks on the machine.
• Finish parts keeping within quality requirements using hand tools to sand/smooth part edges.
• Complete paperwork such as process sheets, NCRS, job cards.
• Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality.
• Adhere to all relevant environmental and health & safety regulations and procedures with particular attention to safe systems of work within the workshop including PPE standards.
• If necessary be prepared to work in other departments within the workshop as requested by the senior management team.
• Ensure your area of the workshop is always maintained in a clean and tidy state.
• Develop and implement a planned maintenance schedule for all machines and equipment used within the area of responsibility.
• Be aware of quality issues (beyond normal tolerances) within the processes in your area of the workshop and implement procedures and actions to reduce any non-conformances to a minimum.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• A minimum of 1 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Previous experience should include the fabrication of aluminium windows, shopfront, doors, and curtain walling.
• Knowledge and ability to work on any machine within the aluminium workshop CNC, saws, crimpers, routers etc.
• Knowledge of relevant software packages for aluminium systems and programming of CNC machines
• Knowledge of various aluminium systems is preferable.
• The ability to work under pressure.
• The ability to read technical drawings.
• A positive attitude to work with the ability to work in a team and follow instructions.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to produce high quality work.
