Senior Health & Safety Manager (Construction, NIHE Direct, Projects & Contracts)


Job description

To provide strategic leadership, to the Health & Safety Teams for Construction, NIHE Direct, Projects and Contracts, within Health & Safety Services across all areas of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE). To ensure that the NIHE complies with all current Health & Safety legislation and associated Approved Codes of Practice (ACoP’s) and official guidance and standards and to develop and implement Health & Safety best practice across NIHE.

Responsibilities

  • To support the Assistant Director in delivering an effective and efficient Health & Safety service to ensure compliance with legislation to ensure a safe working environment for staff, tenants, contractors and visitors.
  • To work collaboratively with other senior HSS managers and the Assistant Director, Health & Safety Services, in order to deliver key performance and Health & Safety Services objectives.
  • To ensure effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including the HSENI and external providers of Specialist Safety Services and Training.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient management of the Construction, NIHE Direct and Projects & Contracts Health & Safety Teams and the organisational approach to managing risks associated with construction activities.
  • To support the Assistant Director, Health & Safety Services develop and deliver key performance objectives for Health & Safety Services and in the development and implementation of relevant organisational Policies.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Possess a NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent level qualification (Level 6) in Health & Safety.
  • Have at least three years’ experience managing health and safety at a senior level in a large multi-disciplinary organisation; NIHE has in excess of 3,500 staff, with around 45 sites, and manages a revenue budget of circa £1.3bn.
