Make a real difference to people’s lives as an Ambulance Care Attendant. We’re seeking compassionate, reliable individuals with FREC 3 qualification, flexible availability, and a patient-focused attitude to join our team. Part time and full time positions. Shifts from 8-12 hours. Working in Southern Healthcare trust for NIAS. You transport patients to and from hospitals, day centres and clinics for routine appointments. You are responsible for patients' welfare throughout the journey, being able to lift, move and drive them safely and in comfort. You will be required to reassure anxious patients, gently explain the situation to them as they may be confused, and generally treat each person in a way that enables them to keep their dignity and ensure full confidentiality. Sometimes, you might have to gently persuade patients to leave their homes, or to leave the ambulance at the end of the journey. You might need to assist some patients from wheelchairs. Ambulance Care Assistants must be very skilled in moving and handling techniques, using special equipment provided, when needed. You must check, clean, disinfect and restock any supplies on the ambulance before, during and after use as per company policy. You will be required to keep up-to-date incident and patient records in line with data protection and company policy. To ensure that all equipment provided is kept to the highest standard and any defects or losses are reported immediately.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient transfers safely and in line with ACA guidelines.
• Accurately complete patient care records and compliance paperwork.
• Follow infection control, health & safety, and data protection procedures.
• Ensure patient comfort, dignity, and safety during transport.
• To identify, assess and report all incidents where Child Protection and Safeguarding are concerned.
• Receive and interpret information from patients, carers, Healthcare Professionals, and other Emergency Services and ensure clear and legible notes are made on the Patient Discharge Form (PDF) and handed over correctly to the receiving department.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• FREC 3 qualified.
• You must have a full manual driving licence, with less than 6 penalty points, held for 12 months with a full B or D1 category entitlement.
• Ability to deal with the physical and mental challenges of this active, demanding job.

Desirable Skills

• The ability to get on with people from all backgrounds.
• The ability to follow directions easily.
• Good geographical knowledge of the southern trust area e.g. Armagh l Banbridge l Craigavon l Dungannon l Newry l Mourne.
• Available to work shifts and to fulfil weekend duties including late night shifts.
• Safe driving abilities.
• Undertake and be aware of capacity/consent/mental health and patient cente redness.

Non-Emergency Ambulance Care Attendant falls under the definition of Regulated Activity in relation to children, defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (SVG) Act 2006 and the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007 (both as amended). Regulated Activity is work that a barred person must not do. Applicants for Non-Emergency Ambulance Care Attendant will be required to apply to Access NI for an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate which will inform us of any spent and unspent convictions on your record, and this information will be used to assess your suitability as a Non-Emergency Ambulance Care Attendant.
