We are seeking a proactive, experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance function. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the accounts function within ASEE Group, with responsibility for financial accounting, month-end reporting, reconciliations, statutory compliance and supporting the wider finance team.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of Group Management accounts.
- Assist in development and reporting KPI's.
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly Board Report.
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review of bank and supplier reconciliations.
- Preparation of UK VAT, Payroll, subcontractor, other statutory returns prior to submission.
- Assist in the preparation of branch CIT/VAT/Payroll/subcontractor/other statutory returns prior to submission.
- Preparation of Annual FS and audit files for the annual financial audit.
- Preparation of annual budget and business plans.
- Preparation of Grant applications and claims.
- Developing and improving the company’s financial systems and processes.
- Mentoring and developing other finance staff.
- Ensuring that all statutory surveys are submitted in a timely manner.
- Any other task that may be requested by the directors or line manager.
- Preparation of monthly financial accounts and supporting schedules. Completion and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Review of bank, supplier and other key account reconciliations.
- Preparation and review of UK VAT, payroll, subcontractor and other statutory returns prior to submission. Assist with the preparation of branch CIT, VAT, payroll, subcontractor and other statutory returns prior to submission.
- Preparation of annual financial statements and supporting audit files. Liaising with external auditors and supporting the annual financial audit process. Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and business plans.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines and reporting requirements are met. Review of financial transactions and account postings to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Investigation and resolution of variances, discrepancies and accounting issues. Supporting the maintenance and improvement of financial systems, controls and processes.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, legislation and internal financial procedures. Ensuring all statutory surveys and financial returns are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Providing financial information and support to management and operational teams as required. Mentoring and providing guidance to junior members of the finance team. Assisting with grant applications and claims where required.
- Supporting the wider finance function with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.

- Consistently produces accurate financial information and maintains high standards of data integrity. Understands the relationship between financial performance and business operations.
- Able to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Proactive approach to identifying and resolving financial and accounting issues.
- Ability to provide guidance and support to junior finance staff. Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Microsoft Excel skills and experience using accounting and ERP systems. Maintains professional and ethical standards when handling financial and commercially sensitive information.
Desirable Skills
- Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in a management accounting role, ideally within engineering, construction, or related sectors.
- Track record in preparing management accounts and financial analysis.
- Knowledge of project accounting and cost control is advantageous.
- Experience of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Business Central.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
- Understanding of UK financial reporting standards, VAT, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both finance and operational teams.
