Electrical Shift Engineer
Job description
Our client is seeking an Electrical Shift Engineer supporting a 24/7 manufacturing operation to join their team based in Belfast. Install and maintain packaging/bottling and labelling equipment.
Responsibilities
- Install and maintain packaging/bottling and labelling equipment
- Read variety of electrical prints to troubleshoot electrical systems, electrical photoeyes, and relays
- Read and program programmable logic control
- Working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) (i.e. understanding instructions, editing documentation, and/or navigation for A-B PLC-5, A-B SLC-500, Control Logix, Drive Executive, Devicenet/Controlnet/Ethernet)
- Oversee packaging facility and ensure repairs are done and equipment is ready
- Troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns (i.e. pinpointing, reading schematics and repairing problems associated with high speed manufacturing line breakdowns)
- Working with hydraulic systems (i.e. understanding high-pressure cylinders, pumps, or valves and reading schematics and using for troubleshooting in high-speed manufacturing)
- Working with pneumatics (i.e. working with solenoids, cylinders, or motor brakes and reading schematics and using for troubleshooting in high speed manufacturing)
- Working with electrical systems (i.e. working with high voltage, installation, frequency drive experience, motor testing, troubleshooting, or panels in high speed manufacturing)
- Performing preventative maintenance (i.e. conducting computerized preventative maintenance check-ups or reading SPC charts and data)
- Line manufacturing support systems (i.e. ozone generation, line/lube delivery, chemical delivery, ingredient delivery)
- Conveyors (i.e. air cylinders, diverters, sensors, motor/speed control/VFDs)
- Attend daily Tier 1 shift-based meetings and discuss daily maintenance plan
- Contribute and/or own tier 2 improve project up to and including RCM project ownership (training provided)
- Uses machine shop instrumentation and equipment to fabricate repair parts as needed
- Write follow up work orders with appropriate information for defective equipment utilizing CMMS system (SAP)
- Maintains equipment parts and supplies inventories through accurate withdrawal from stock utilizing SAP
- Occasionally required to operate equipment such as scissor lift, man lift and forklift
- Follow Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP), perform tasks per the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and follow general housekeeping guidelines and rules for Food Safety Regulations
- Keep area updated with 5S
- Perform all job functions safely
- Bend and twist inside restricted spaces eg working inside or underneath isolated machines
- While performing the duties of the job, employee will be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts
- Occasionally exposed to chemicals used in the process
- Regularly exposed to a noisy environment
- Work in and around machinery
- Must wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety toed shoes, cut resistant gloves, bump cap or hard hat, hair net, and beard net (if applicable)
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
- Must have PLC and/or a strong electrical background
- Knowledge of power transmission
- Strong preference for time-served electrical engineers/apprenticeships
- HND or degree qualifications can be considered, but practical, hands-on experience is essential
- Maintenance experience in similar industrial environments
- You will be a professional engineer with significant experience who is qualified to HND or Degree level in mechanical engineering
- You will also have considerable project management experience and evidence of professional development that area along with a relevant H&S qualification (such as NEBOSH)
- Maintenance experience is required
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in installing, operating, trouble-shooting, and maintaining packaging/bottling and labelling equipment, or similar equipment within a manufacturing environment
- Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevation
- Must regularly lift, push or pull machine parts up to 50 lbs
Desirable Skills
- Experience in a fast-paced packaging facility preferred
