Consultant Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
Job description
The Trust is seeking to recruit an OMFS consultant. The post is a replacement for an expected retirement of a senior member of the team. The post will be based in Altnagelvin Hospital and the successful applicant will join a team 4 consultants providing general OMFS, trauma, Orthognathic and skin cancer services to the population North and West of the NI region. The post is intended to attract a consultant able to contribute flexibly to current service requirements, including outpatient activity, management of waiting lists, operating lists, emergency care and shared on-call arrangements. The appointee will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues to maintain access, continuity and quality across the service. The principal requirement is for a broadly skilled OMFS consultant. The ability to assess and review Head and Neck oncology patients within an appropriate multidisciplinary and governance framework is highly desirable. The successful applicant would have the option to provide an Orthognathic service to the region if they wished.
Responsibilities
- The appointee will work as part of a team with a strong multidisciplinary emphasis.
- The post-holder is expected to contribute equally with his/her colleagues in the diagnosis and treatment of patients requiring dentoalveolar surgery, oral medicine and the surgical management of Trauma cases.
- The post-holder will promote and develop multidisciplinary teamwork within the specialty and will communicate effectively with all agencies and personnel involved in providing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services.
- They will work together with his/her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery colleagues in the further development of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services in the area.
- Work with colleagues to improve access and address service pressures, including waiting-list management and delivery of additional clinical capacity where agreed.
- Contribute to the assessment and review of Head and Neck oncology patients where the appointee has the required competence and where appropriate governance and multidisciplinary arrangements are in place.
- They will be responsible for providing procedures relating to the specialty and will develop same in keeping with medical advances.
- Any oncology-related duties will be clearly defined within the agreed job plan and undertaken through established multidisciplinary, referral and governance arrangements.
- The post is not restricted to a subspecialist Head and Neck oncology surgeon and remains a broad general OMFS consultant appointment.
- Provision of this service involves treatment of patients within a local catchment area of the Republic of Ireland.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Hold or be eligible for Full General Medical Council (London) and Licence to Practise, and be on or be eligible to be on the GMC Specialist Register for Oral Maxillofacial Surgery via:
- CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date) OR Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) route (or within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview, evidenced by CESR application submitted to the GMC).
- Please provide evidence including dates submitted and acceptance of submission from GMC. If not provided you may not be shortlisted.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment or have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust to carry out the duties of the post and meet the on-call commitments.
- This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
