Design Engineer

Product design and development. Design new attachments and implements, including low loaders, dump trailers, excavator rotary brushes and new bucket models, from concept through to production.
Responsibilities
- Improve and update existing products in the forklift brush, bucket, telehandler, trailer and man cage ranges.
- Produce 3D models, assemblies and fully dimensioned 2D manufacturing drawings, including weld details, tolerances and bills of materials.
- Carry out engineering calculations for strength, load capacity, weight and hitch or coupling compatibility.
- Specify materials, wear parts, hydraulic components and bought-in parts.
- Work closely with our fabricators and welders to make sure designs are practical and cost-effective to build.
- Produce cutting lists, nesting files and work instructions for the workshop.
- Support prototype builds, testing and design changes based on results.
- Help set up jigs and fixtures to improve consistency and reduce build time.
- Maintain an organised drawing register with revision control.
- Prepare technical files, operator manuals, parts lists and decals.
- Support product compliance, including CE and UKCA marking and relevant machinery and road trailer requirements.
- Work with the sales director to cost new products and produce quotations for custom or one-off builds. Provide technical support to dealers and end users, including fitment queries and product specifications.
- Liaise with suppliers on components, materials and lead times.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Design Experience.
- HND, degree or equivalent in mechanical, manufacturing or agricultural engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years' experience designing fabricated steel products, machinery or attachments.
- Confident user of 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
- Able to produce clear, accurate manufacturing drawings that a workshop can build from.
- Good understanding of fabrication and welding processes, steel grades and material selection.
- Practical, hands-on approach and happy to spend time in the workshop.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in agricultural, construction or materials-handling equipment.
- Knowledge of trailer design and road trailer regulations.
- Experience with CE and UKCA marking and machinery safety standards.
- Experience with sheet metal design, plasma or laser cutting and nesting software.
- Basic finite element analysis (FEA) skills.
- Experience in a small or growing business where you have owned products end to end.
