Job description

We are currently recruiting for a part-time Cook to join a care home in Belfast. You will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, varied and appetising meals for residents, while ensuring individual dietary needs and preferences are fully considered.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and cook meals for residents, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Prepare nutritious, varied and appetising meals for a large number of residents.
• Cater for individual dietary requirements, allergies and health-related dietary restrictions. Ensure residents' preferences and choices are taken into consideration.
• Contribute to weekly/monthly menu planning, ensuring variety and nutritional value. Oversee the day-to-day running of the kitchen and ensure meals are served on time.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels and assist with ordering and receiving supplies. Store food correctly and safely.
• Minimise food waste and work within agreed budgets. Follow all food safety, hygiene and infection prevention procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen, including equipment and utensils. Engage with residents and respond to their feedback and preferences.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Previous experience working as a Cook or Chef, preferably within a care home, nursing home, hospital, hotel or similar environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of food hygiene and food safety.
• Experience preparing nutritious and varied meals for a large number of people.
• Understanding of allergens and dietary requirements. Knowledge of infection prevention and safe food handling.
• Organisational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to high standards. Respectful approach when working with residents.
